making dreams come true over a cup of coffee.

i’d like to introduce you to the new series in asheville’s Mountain Xpress newspaper…

“the fika files”

this is the cover for today’s newspaper. and yes, my article is mentioned on the front cover too! it’s the “spirituality in a cup o’ joe” piece. eeeeek!

that’s right! today is the day that my first story was published in the independent newspaper, the Mountain Xpress! i still cannot believe it that it’s really real. it was such a crazy, amazing feeling to open up the paper and see my words and photos in print. i just stared at my name and tried to process it all. then i stared at all of the words, my words. i actually had to read the whole article in order to let it sink it that it was my article. seriously.

you know, i imagined this day happening one day. and yet, today, when this dream came true, i could hardly absorb it all. well, you know, i’m still at a loss for words to describe exactly how i feel.

i can tell you this: i am so unbelievably grateful. grateful for the opportunity, for the newspaper deciding to trust in me and give me a chance. grateful for all of the words of encouragement and support that have pushed me onward. grateful for my wife for letting me chase this dream right now. grateful for the chance to live in and love sweden, the inspiration for my series of articles. grateful for the courage to take risks and leaps of faith. and grateful for the crazy courage and determination  that i found within me…. the lesson being: when i am true to myself, true to that which i truly feel called to be and do, then the opportunities will arise.

my only hope and continued dream is that i am able to keep writing. to write more articles (which i know that i already have been asked to do) and move even to the next level of writing books, mentoring others, and holding workshops and speaking engagements. this is who i am. this is who i am called to be.

and by god… now that i’ve come this far, i’m not about to stop dreaming.

asheville-ians, i hope you picked up a paper and read the article in print. everyone else, you can read the article on the Mountain Xpress’s online edition here.

thank you so much for following along, for cheering me on, for sending me messages of encouragement, and for being the best blogging buddies and readers a girl could ask for!

peace and love to you all. xx

  5. This is fantastic, Liz! Just finally catching up now – I hadn’t understood the Fika thing before. What a great word! Congrats on your article, too. Must be quite a buzz to see that in print, and to have an excuse to go fika 😉 Love and hugs!

    1. Agreed, it’s a super cool word. And one of those things that’s indicative of the culture, it seems to me. We need more Fika in the USA.

  6. Congratulations Liz. I can imagine how chuffed you must be to have your thoughts published in a real newspaper. Bravo! I see autograph hounds and paparazzi in your future. ~James
