The ultimate playlist: One song for every day of the year

I love music. And I have been known to produce lots of playlists. Hehe. Like. A lot. For the past few years, I have done a new playlist every month. Each one centered around a theme for the month. Last year, I even had 12 themes (for the 12 months) that centered around and built up my word of the year. It was magical + powerful for me. In the previous years, I have simply moved through the seasons of the year, discovering + choosing new songs combined with old favorites, creating playlist after playlist after playlist.

My playlist obsession actually began when I turned 40. It was a way for me to ground + celebrate turning 40 all year long. One playlist every month.  And I loved it. And, since I started creating playlists, many of you have loved + followed + listened to my playlists, too, I think.

Here’s a little sample of some of my playlists. These are my five most popular playlists, according to Spotify. (Click on each one to be directed directly it).

  1. Free Spirit // April 2015
  2. Connect + Create // September 2015
  3. Dedicated // March 2015
  4. Brave // February 2016
  5. Intention // Jan 2016

But, Twenty17 has me stumped. I didn’t choose themes for every month this year, and therefore I’ve had nothing to focus on. That means that I have not listened to music or discovered music quite as much as I have in the past. Which is crazy. And has me feeling an empty space inside of me where my music soul is. But, I have just gone with the flow. Let the unsettled feelings arise, and have still gathered together a bunch of songs into one playlist that I created for this year. With no order or reason or purpose. But, just so I made sure to find and save and listen to some songs.

Then, today, as I was perusing + organizing my Spotify account, it came to me. I don’t want to do monthly playlists, but I do want to create something to mark this year. How about a playlist for the year, with a new song every day?! It feels perfect!

Now, logistically, it’s already April 21, so I can’t do it, can I? Wrong. As I said, I have already added songs to a playlist. And, turns out I have already gathered 130 songs. I can use them. But, then, my next question to myself was, “What day is it today?” Do I have too many or too few songs. So, I looked it up.

Today is day 111. Instantly I knew that this was a magic number. I mean, it’s repetitive. Added together, it equals 3, which I consider a special, sacred number. Think triangles, divinity, balance. I don’t really know what this number means in those numerology circles. But, seriously. 111. It’s gotta have some magic behind it.

Sure enough, when I googled, just out of curiosity, I found that it is considered a gateway number. A number indicating that the universe is open and it’s a huge time of manifestation… a sign to trust your own inner wisdom and intuition to guide you on your path in life. To create + manifest the life that you desire. It is a powerful number giving an extra edge and sense of spiritual depth to one’s journey toward enlightenment.

So, yeah. Not that I am numerologist, but I am a person to read the signs that life/the universe places in front of me, and since I also had a deep sense of magic when I saw that today was day #111, I’m taking it as a positive push and assurance that I the alignment I am seeking, that the path I am on, is exactly where I need to be. Now, you may think I am reading way too much into this. But, that’s fine with me. The soul knows what it knows. And if there is one thing that I have learned, it is that I know my soul. And I trust her.

Now, back to the playlist. I have no idea why adding one song every day seems to be a good thing for me. But, I feel that it is. So, that’s what I am going to do. The first thing I needed to do, though, was to delete about 20 songs. No biggie. I just scrolled through the playlist I’d already gathered + took away the ones that didn’t feel right. And now, BOOM. I’ve got 111 songs.

So, in the middle of April. On some random day that marks nothing special at all. No halfway through 2017. No 1/4th of the way through 2017.  No beginning of a month. Or anything that makes sense. On this random Friday in April, I am starting a new project. A new playlist. And I am so excited.

Of course, I’d love for you to follow along. I don’t know if I am going to do many blog posts about it, or post things on Instagram or anything, but I will be adding one song every single day from now until the end of the year, so we have a playlist of 365 songs on the 31st of December. I’m thinking that the best way for you to keep up + discover the songs with me is to subscribe to the playlist on Spotify.

And you can do that right here.

So, head on over to Spotify + subscribe! It’ll be a fun journey, and I would absolutely love to share it with you. And, of course, if you ever find that you come across a fantastic song that should just be a part of this playlist, then please let me know! I’d love to hear from y’all. With that, I’ll bid you happy weekend – and I hope that you’ll get a chance to catch up + listen to the songs that area already a part of the playlist. Enjoy, my friends!

xoxo. liz.
