31 questions + answers

since i posted the other day that we are supposed to focus on ourselves, that life is all about me (and your life is all about you), i thought i’d keep the same self-centered theme going today. wink wink.

i’m also thinking that since it’s the weekend, i should have a little fun with this blog post today.

so, i’ve copied a list of 31 questions from lina’s blog, who copied it from another blog, and so on. it’s nothing heavy. just light + breezy + silly. a chance to let you get to know me a bit more. think of it as a random interview about random little things.

and should you be interested + have a blog of your own + would like to spend a few minutes making it all about you, feel free to copy the questions and do your own little fun post for the weekend. i’d love to read about you! here we go!

1. Where’s your cellphone? It’s stuffed under the pillow beside me on the sofa. It often is beside me, then somehow magically slides away + under the pillow. But, all of my notifications are turned off + it’s on silent, so I often forget it’s there. I’m in the midst of a self-imposed challenge of learning to step back/away from having my phone available constantly.

2. Where’s your second half? She’s sitting beside me on the sofa. We’re both geeking out on blogging stuff. It’s Saturday morning + we’re doing what we love.

3. Your hair? Down, messy, flat, slept on.

4. Your mood? My overall mood is relaxed + and peaceful. I mean, it’s Saturday! I feel so grateful + blessed by so much. I feel so strong + secure in myself right now. So empowered.  I do have a lot on my mind, knowing that things are changing in our life right now, speeding up. But in good ways, I believe. Still, things are going to be different. Life is changing, moving on. Exciting + scary + meant to be.

5. Your plan for today? I have no plans at all for today + tomorrow. We’ve discussed going down to the basement + making the summer/autumn clothing switch. We’ve also discussed making our next vlog. It’s been way too long. But, nothing at all is planned. And that feels amazing!

6. What’s the best you know? The best I know… this is so hard. There are many things that take my breath away. Standing on the top of a mountain in NC. Riding the waves in a boat in the open sea. Holiday dinners. Christmas morning. Drinking a beer at a local pub. Walking the streets of a new city, snapping photos everywhere. Reynolds beach week. Trees. Snow days. Driving with the windows down. Sunday mornings in bed with coffee, computers, + my love. Balconies. Cathedrals. Camping. Mexican food. I could go on…

7. Your dream last night? I can’t remember one thing. I woke up late (8 am is late for me) and felt completely rested. Soooooo nice.

8. Your goal in life? To inspire others through images + words. To travel the world, meet people, teach people, and create peace. To live in both Sweden and the States equally. To share it all with my Lina.

9. The room you’re in? I’m comfy on the sofa in our living room in Uppsala, Sweden. I just looooove our sofa. The warm morning sun is streaming in, so much so that my love just pulled the blinds down + cracked the window.

10. Your hobby? Is photography my hobby or my work? It used to be my hobby, but I am making a transition. So, for now, brewing beer/tasting beer and all things coffee. These are my current hobbies. Mmmm!

11. Your fear? Not living life to the fullest. Settling. Not being authentic.

12. Where would you like to be in six years? Literally, six year from today it’ll September 2021 and I’ll be 46. I’d love to be in NC. I’d love to be tucked away in our own little tiny house cabin in the woods until Thanksgiving. Writing, photographing, coaching, working online, visiting friends + family, planning our next trip, which of course would be my next assignment for my next book.

13. Where were you yesterday evening? Home on the couch the whole evening, finishing up a Back to the Future marathon. Hehe.

14. What are you not? I am not a sporty girl.

15. Something you wish? I wish that we could be in Asheville this autumn.

asheville-north-carolina-downtown atlantic beach northcarolina

16. Where did you grow up? North Carolina, USA

17. What was the last thing you did? Woke up, washed the dishes, and brewed a pot of coffee.

18. Your clothes? A blue t-shirt from an old college job (I was a summer camp counselor) and cozy pants = pjs.

19. Your TV? We bought the tv we have from the chick who’s apartment we are renting. It was already on the wall, so that made it easy. But, it’s not very big. Ok for now. However, we are movie/series lovers, so one day we will get a big ass tv.

20. Your pet? Sweet little social Zola who loves to sleep in the sun, on a pillow, or under tents that we build for her.

21. Your computer? Macbook Air. And I love it. Though the new MacBooks look amazing. Just sayin’.

22. The best thing you own? My iPhone, camera, moleskin journals, and computer.

birthday friends

23. Do you miss anyone? Do I ever?! I miss my family in the States like crazy. I miss American friends + soul mates from all over the world that I don’t see that often.

24. Your car? We have no car now. It’s nice to walk + cycle everywhere. And I totally love taking trains. But, I’m a heavy-footed, car lovin’ girl. Driving is so much fun to me. Always has been. And it symbolizes a sense of freedom that I miss when I don’t have a car. I’m so gonna have a Jeep Wrangler again one day. Yep.

25. Something you’re not wearing? Makeup

26. Favorite store? Weekday (a Swedish clothing store). Target. Greenlife. Vintage/hippie stores. Any independent little funky place. I try not to be a huge fan of chains, but I’m not perfect.

airbnb-windowsill-coffee sigtuna-me-view soder-me-and-my-love lina me beer

27. Your summer? We stayed in Sweden all summer, but we still acted like tourists. We had 3 visitors at different times, including my brother, so we showed them all the best of Uppsala, Norrköping, and Stockholm. But, when we were on our own, during our vacation weeks, Lina and I did our own adventuring, with a week in the archipelago, a few day trips, and a few Airbnb weekends in Stockholm. Plus an amazing Pride parade experience and just enjoying Uppsala. It was a fantastic summer.

28. Do you love anyone? My amazing wife, Lina. (see the photos above. hehe.)

29. Favorite color? Oooo… it changes with the day. I once drove about 12 teenagers out to Wyoming to an Indian reservation to do volunteer work for a week. One night, as we drove back from a local pow wow (Indian ceremony), the sunset over the plains and mountains was incredible. I pointed it out to all of my kids, telling them to just take a moment and soak in the beauty of the wild, open west. One of the kids said,”That is my favorite color today.”” What color?”, I asked. And he pointed outside to the reds, oranges, pinks, purples, blues, and yellows. He pointed to the sunset. To everything that we could see stretched out before us. I have never thought about my favorite color in the same way… everyday since that evening in Wyoming about 10 years ago, I now discover my favorite color of the day. Every day. Though I always love green.

30. When did you laugh last? Yesterday.

31. When did you cry last? Tuesday during my meditation training class. No idea why. Just got emotional.

ok. ok. copy + paste this to your blog. share some of who you are with me! happy weekend, lovelies!

disney world: incredible, imaginative epcot!

day two of our week-long disney world party continued at the amazing world of epcot – a place of imagination, science, techology, and international flair. and let me tell you, we soaked it all in. every single stink in’ bit. it was a beautiful day to explore, ride rides, and visit all the countries, but when the sun went down it turned windy & cooooold, so we enjoyed a three course dinner in paris (hee hee) at a fabulous french restaurant and watched the fireworks from there. well, just check it all out!

did you know that there is a ride in the big epcot ball? yep. it’s called spaceship earth & it’s freaking awesome.

DSC_0447 DSC_0460DSC_0463

we grabbed breakfast after a few rides and some starbucks coffee to warm us up. like i said, it was beautiful, but it was cold.IMG_7733

after some space and dinosaur stuff, it was time for the land area… and an amazing ride called soarin’ and then some more sun worship.
IMG_7735 IMG_7738 IMG_7736

time for the countries!! they are all situated around a lake, so we planned to start on the left and walk all the way around. each country had authentic architecture and natives working in their stores/restaurants. it’s like taking a mini trip around the world. sooooo cool.DSC_0477 DSC_0482

as much as i have loved epcot and magic kingdom, i cannot choose a favorite between the two… and there are two more parks to go! all of them are so individually fantastic and inspiring. stay tuned till tomorrow, when i explore hollywood studios!

peace and love. xx

helloooo, friends! we’re on a plane headed somewhere… for a week-long vacation! woo hoo! that’s right it’s travel time – our first trip of 2014! but, it’s also the beginning of our 70 years celebration. the first in a long line of celebrations and living life all throughout the year. what are we celebrating, you ask?  well, this year my love turns 30  (in may) and i turn 40 (in september)! (hence, the 70 years thing). so, since we have two big birthdays coming up, we decided that we’d give ourselves this trip as a birthday present to us to start the year off right. sooooo exciting.

but, i guess you’ll have to wait to see where we end up. hehe.

bon voyage!

peace & love.

sensory (super)overload. part 4.

there has been some serious sensory overload during the past week. from a 9 hour road trip in pouring rain to family to super amounts of yummy food to holiday fun to christmas tree hunting adventures, it’s more than i can write about in one blog post. so, i’m not going to write much at all. in fact, i can’t really put it into words. so, instead, i’m gonna share my sensory overload only through my photos – a lot of photos. you’ll get it when you see all the amazing-ness that i have been blessed to enjoy over the past few days. ready?!

hoping that your days have been filled with happiness and peace. and if they haven’t, then i send peace and love to you… and i challenge us all, no matter what, to seek to find something to be grateful for. because this world, even as dark and messed up and corrupt and harsh that it is, is also filled with tiny snippets of joy and beauty. it may only been seen in a little flower for one short moment, but it is there. and i wish a lifetime of beautiful moments for you…

peace and love.

those last summer moments…

upon arrival late friday night, i just had to go out to the dock & breathe in the sea air.

crazy weather tuesday (perfect timing for driving home!)

i could not have asked for a better few days at the beach. it was relaxing. it was filled with family. it was sunny & warm – like unseasonably warm, like the middle of summer warm. i read. i dangled my feet in water. i ate seafood i laughed. i slept. it was close to perfect. and i left feeling inspired and ready to tackle all of this amazing-ness surrounding me back at home. plus, i am really on board with autumn now. i had my last summer fling and now it’s time for boots, jeans, and all things pumpkin.

hope y’all had a good weekend too – i realize i’m a little late saying it, but hey… better late than never, right?

happy hump day! love & peace.

weekends are for catching up.

what could be better than having a very lazy summer saturday morning in your new home, enjoying a yummy breakfast, blogging away, seeing the love of your life sitting beside you, having a cute kitty snuggled up at your feet, and “watching” reruns of beverly hills, 90210 on the tube in the background? seriously. pretty damn near perfect, right? or perhaps i’m just a lover of the simpler things in life… i hope i am. i strive to be that kind of person.

in any case, this weekend has gotten off to a fabulous start. and that’s following a pretty awesome week too. sometimes i feel like i’m just going to burst from being overwhelmed by my life.

at the same time, as i enjoy the moments here in asheville, i find myself thinking about those of you, my friends & family, back in sweden. i miss you. and i cherish all of the memories that i have… feeling excitement already about the time when we will see each other again.

but, since i’ve been up to so many different things this week here in the states, i thought i’d update y’all on what’s been going on. so, here we go!

monday: got my iphone back (after it took a little swim in the ocean last week). and went to a protest. you can read about that amazing experience here! and found out, thanks to @murderingtime on instagram (one of my original IG buddies), that my belovelive photo journey now has passed 2000 uploaded photos by people from all over the world! you can see them all here.

photo a day

a little postcard i got in the mail all the way from australia! it’s a greeting from @murderingtime. see how amazing instagram is?!

tuesday: we took care of our bonus-niece for the afternoon. love that girl! love her whole family!

bella and the owl.

wednesday: stayed home all day & took care of business = emails, applications, blogging. cozy, fun stuff. at least that’s how i feel about it.

cozy work space

thursday: drank lots of coffee. yes, i usually drink alot. but this day was an unusually large amount. hehe. met with a journalist/blogger at a downtown asheville cafe for a networking session. we discussed my blog, writing, what my niche is, and just got to know each other a bit. sent out more applications (mostly teaching gigs).

world coffee

friday: well, it was a top-notch, amazing, one of my fave days back in asheville so far, kinda day! and i’ve got tons of photos to show you. ready?

the sunrise from our balcony.

meditating outside. on said balcony. it doesn’t get more inspiring!

after the premiere workout session in our gym, we had the premiere dip in the pool!

no i did not get another… our friend, jessica, got her first! yay! (but i did make plans for my 40th birthday next year. hehe).

time for the great american pastime: a baseball game!!

bella’s first baseball game. and lina’s second. my 1000th.

play ball!

the national anthem is over… play ball!

baseball game fireworkssaturday is well underway now, and i’ve enjoyed my morning and am ready to move on to a few errands and then perhaps another dip in the pool this afternoon. tough life, huh? but, in my defense, it’s still summer… and i have a few things/plans underway next week on the job front. wink wink. you’ll have to wait fro another blog post to hear about that.

until then, have a fantastic weekend. take some time to breathe/meditate/be/listen. and seek out ways to be aware and present in the moments that you are given.

all my love & peace.

“Don’t get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.” ~ D.P.

did you know that dolly parton has a theme park?! and did you also know that it is only about 1.5/2 hours from where we live?! well, she does! and it is!

dollywood (what else would it be called? hehe.) has been around for a while, but, like all great amusement parks, it gets bigger and bigger, and more over the top than ever, as the years pass. dolly parton over the top? hehe. i’m not picking on her… i truly do love her. now, the last time i visited dollywood, i was about 15… so that was about *bleep* years ago. before the internet. and cell phones (except maybe those bag ones). and starbucks. yes, that’s right, i am that old.

in any case, dollywood would prove to waaaaay different from what i remember it to be. legitimate roller coasters. and tons of fans/people/thrill seekers/families all over.

we headed to dollywood last sunday to celebrate my sweet, amazing friend, jessica’s birthday. 30th birthday! she and her family (part of our extended family) are big time dollywood lovers, and they invited us along for the fun. lina was about to jump out of her skin with excitement when she found out we were going. i’m surprised she slept any the night before. love ya, baby.

so, off we went! over the smokey mountains & into tennessee. we spent a super nice july day wandering the park, some of us riding rides, eating food, seeing shows, and laughing pretty much constantly. it was a fabulous day and we are so thankful that we got to spend it with the howard/redd family! and yes… we are now season pass ticket holders. suckers.

peace out, loveys.

full of archipelago love.

oh, how i’ve missed y’all!

but, the time away was absolutely perfect. sweden delivered perfect summer weather the entire week that we were in the archipelago. we were surrounded by friends & family, which made everything that much more fun. there were moments of solitude and silence, crazy moments of high energy and laughter. singing, dancing, walking in the woods, rowing on the sea, soaking up the sun, scratching mosquito bites, smothering our skin with sunscreen, reading in our cozy room… and i even got some work done! all in all, i must say, that this was the perfect way to spend our last full week in sweden. i could not have asked for a better week!

here come a bunch of photos… sending a little archipelago love to you:

do you ever wonder who you are?

thanks to my blogging/twitter friend, alarna, i got a little distracted the other day. she tweeted this link, and i, of course, clicked on it and got immersed in all the silly craziness.

you have got to give it a whirl!

come on, admit that you enjoy hunting down & reading about “the type of person you are”. you know. personality tests. i can’t be the only one intrigued by this meaningless (and yet, sometimes very insightful) activity. it’s just so much fun. so, i clicked on alarna’s tweet and found myself on someone else’s blog who had a link to a website that takes your blog’s web address and analyzes you. how, you ask? i have no idea. it doesn’t really seem possible to simply type in an address and receive an accurate description of who i am.

but i clicked. i entered. and i received.

and the only thing that didn’t seem to be right in the description of me was that i’ve never thought of myself as an extrovert, but an introvert. and i never would have described myself as a socializer – more like a loner. but, who knows? maybe i’m not really that introverted. still, everything else that was written made sense.  yep. it just may be a good insight into how others perceive me. who knows.

anyway… here’s what my blog address turned up:

ESFJ – The Socializers

The author of http://belovelive.com is of the type ESFJ.
The social, warm, enthusiastic, energetic, structured and opinionated type. They are especially attuned to the feelings of themselves and others. They tend to be very aware of the values of their peer-group and tend to see things as either right or wrong, good or bad. They tend to be traditional and value their friends and family the most. People love to be around ESFJs and they are extremely good on bringing out the best of others.
They take pleasure in other people’s happiness. They give generously, but expect appreciation in return. Sensitive to the physical needs of others, they respond by offering practical care. As expert people readers, ESFJs often adapt their manners to meet the expectations of others. However, they may have difficulty recognizing the shortcomings of loved ones.

The Socializers are down-to-earth, practical people and very keen on making sure everyone is alright. This quality makes them enjoy social work places. Since they enjoy being and keeping things neat and tidy, they often also enjoy working in such environments.

Common satisfying careers: Teacher, Office Managers, Administrative Manager, Child Care, Special Education Teacher, Counselor, Dentist and HR Manager.

Notable ESFJs: Harry S. Truman, Bill Clinton, Tom Clancy, Barbara Walters, Tyra Banks, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, Woody Harrelson, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Biel, Victoria Beckham.

so, you can see why i was pretty interested & having fun with this little activity. if you know me at all, then you will see that this brain picture thing describes me to a “t”. i am totally a senser & a feeler way before i am logical. and my practical. idealistic sides are quite even. and the careers associated with ESFJ’s… spot on!

now. you know you wanna try it too. join in the fun! and then let me know how it turned out.

on today’s agenda.

celebration is my theme for today. woo hoo!! got my sermon all done last night. based it on jesus turning water into wine at a wedding. wrote about learning to celebrate in every moment, because there is always, always something worth celebrating. it’s always the right time for a party. it’s alway the right time to take something ordinary & make it something extraordinary – like jesus making water into wine. and now, i’m gonna work really hard to practice what i preach. hehe. because, i mean, seriously, things may not be perfect; but perhaps i would celebrate more if i looked at what i had, instead of what i don’t have (and i’m not talking material things). life is too short to go around feeling sorry for ourselves. little slivers of beauty & joy exist even in the darkest places & moments. celebrating does not mean being dreamy, unrealistic, and naive. not. at. all. it means embracing all that is wrong, difficult, scary, and horrible in the world & in our lives, and still finding a reason to dance & laugh & sing.

so, instead of wasting my life away, i’m gonna celebrate all that there is to celebrate. and what better time than now. if not now, then when?!

there y’all have gotten the gist of what i’m talking about today at work. wanna join me in celebrating later on?!

happy sunday! throw a party! (even if it’s for yourself…. you’re worth it!). peace & laughter.
