TEN on TEN | january 2015

yesterday i introduced a little photo challenge that i’ve committed myself to for the year. you can read all about it { here }. simply put, it’s a challenge that only occurs on the 10th of every month, and the challenge is to take 10 photos throughout the day, highlighting those everyday moments. an opportunity to seek + find the beauty in the ordinary, to slow down + appreciate regular life, and all things simple + real. at the end of the day, the photos can then be shared wherever to whomever.

my intention was, of course, to share my TEN on TEN at the end of the day on the 10th. however, it was not such a regular, ordinary day for me, so i am doing it as early on the 11th as i can. hehe. but, one day off isn’t that bad, right?! i mean, all of the photos are from yesterday.

and what a day it was. i had to make a run for coffee because… no coffee pot. i blogged a bit in bed. prepared the balcony furniture (and other stuff) to be picked up by a well-deserving friend. attempted to organize my suitcase in the bedroom. ate mexican for lunch. got ready for our moving out party. and then loved every single minute of our friends gathering in our home, including a having two of them perform a live concert from the corner of the living room. my heart was completely filled with joy and gratitude. it was pure magic.

so, here are my TEN on TEN from th 10th of january. it was an incredible day.

we’re moving out of our apartment today. like totally out. so, it’s a crazy day. but, I feel ready. i’ve done all of my little goodbye moments in places around our home, so it’s time to move on and move in to my brother’s back apartment for a week. then, it’s all about hanging out and enjoying asheville. happy sunday, folks!

onwards + upwards! xoxo

celebrating love

lina’s sister is getting married today! we’ve been up to our eyeballs in wedding preparations all week long, with, of course, a few breaks for drinks with friends and such. hehe. anyway, the day has arrived and i’m super excited (and nervous!). lina is the maid of honor and i’m the “toastmaster”, along with lina’s brother. it’s gonna be so much fun, but i feel a tiny bit of stress because this tradition of toastmaster is not exactly something we do in the states – hosting a “program” during the dinner time. still, it’s with lina’s brother – and we just feed off of each others’ energy, so it will be amazing!

hopefully the weather will hold out, because the ceremony is beside the water. but, then the rest of the wedding celebrations are inside = party! party! what a fantastic day it will be no matter the weather – it’s never wrong to celebrate love.

oh, yeah! i am also photographing the wedding, along with one of lina’s cousin’s (peter, who was in the states with us and jonas in may!). so much to do! so much fun!!

happy saturday, lovely people! love & peace.

2 0 1 4.

It’s January 1st! A brand new year! I rang in the new year in style and filled with lots of fun celebrations – so. much. freaking. fun. This year was definitely not a quiet New Year’s Eve. It was loud, crazy, fun, and filled with fabulous people, dancing, champagne, and lots of laughs. Like I said, celebratory! A little glimpse of what is to come in 2014… at least those are my intentions. More about my vision and intentions for 2014 in a few days, as I begin to get a feel for this year’s vibe and how it connects with my word of the year. Of course, tomorrow I’ll post lots of photos from our New Year’s Eve celebration shenanigans. How was your night? Hopefully, it was as you had hoped. Right now, I’m about to close the 1st day of 2014. I’m cozy in my bed, with my love & my cat beside me. I’m beat after not much sleep last night and a 3 hour drive home from Atlanta this afternoon. But first I wanted to stop by and leave a heartfelt Happy New Year greeting from my love and me to all of you! So, my friends, goodnight. Sleep tight. Sending you warm wishes for a blessed, peaceful, blissful, and adventurous 2014 filled with celebrations and loving life to the fullest!

peace and love. xx

what are you doing new year’s eve?

well, that’s a wrap. the last day of 2013 is upon is, and i don’t know about you, but i am ready for some serious celebrating! this year i wanna get dressed up and be all fancy & girly. i wanna dance and go to a party and ring in the new year with people all around me.

i think i’m in such a celebratory mood because 2013 has been oh so generous to me… well, my love and i have worked for it, but we’ve also expected and envisioned it. so, as we dreamed and believed, we also acted and the universe opened door after door, showering us with amazing moments. and i want to celebrate all of that. i want to shout to the world, and spread extra joy today to everyone i meet… because i am so grateful and blessed. it’s time to try to give back a little of the amazingness that has been given to me in 2013. it’s truly time to celebrate.

all of the serious, soul-searching, reflection is done. last night i spent a few hours with candles lit, a glass of wine by my side, pens and journals open, and my soul-touching playlist playing. i reflected on the past year and envisioned and planned for the new one. i wrote on the last page of my 2013 journal and then put it away, with all of my other journals. it was a very special and meaningful ritual. but, now, these end of the year rites of passage have been completed, so the only thing left to do is dance & drink champagne!

as you read this, i am either currently on my way or already in atlanta, georgia to celebrate new year’s eve with some friends – lanie (a blogging buddy) and her girl, charlie. my love and i hit the road early, because we’ve got shopping, exploring, eating, drinking, and having fun to do before we meet up with the girls in the afternoon to begin our celebrations. and, boy do we have some celebrations planned! it’s gonna be so great! the perfect cap to one of the most amazing years (with plenty of both ups & downs) of my life.

here’s to 2014! here’s to turning 40 this year! here’s to living life & feeling alive!

so, my friends, what are you doing for new year’s eve?

i just had to. they’re so cute.

wishing you the happiest of new years! bring on 2014!

peace and love. xx

party time!

happy friday, friends! here in the mcguire-eriksson household things are full speed ahead with preparations for a full-blown housewarming/christmas party called “eat, drink, & be merry”! that’s right. tonight we’re the hosts with the most. we’ve contacted friends and acquaintances from all parts of our life here in asheville and invited them to drop in for lots of christmas coziness – food, drink, carols, games, laughter. it’s gonna be legen – wait for it – dary! and we loooove to throw a party.

so, if you’re in the area, drop on by anytime after 5pm. and if you’re not in the area, or can’t come, then we wish you a friday filled with celebrations wherever you are.

i reaaaally need to get busy with all of those preparations, like right now. but first, i’d like to share with you some of the decorations we have in our home: we love to decorate (as you will see) and it’s all about creating a cozy, christmas-y atmosphere for us…

that’s our place… third floor with the lights on the balcony and stars in the windows!

ok. time to get busy. wishing you a lovely weekend and lots of moments of holiday cheer!

peace and love. xx

red, white, and woo hoo!

i celebrated the fourth of july with a few fellow americans in sweden for the first time this year. fun! of course, i have celebrated every year one way or another… last year was extra special. anyway, it was a fun evening last night, so i thought i’d give you a little peek into our celebrations! hoping all you americans had a happy 4th! warning: there are more american flags than one should have around them at any given time…

we stuck flags in our bags. hehe.

our hosts. american on the left!!

happy weekend to each of you! TGIF! peace out.

on today’s agenda.

celebration is my theme for today. woo hoo!! got my sermon all done last night. based it on jesus turning water into wine at a wedding. wrote about learning to celebrate in every moment, because there is always, always something worth celebrating. it’s always the right time for a party. it’s alway the right time to take something ordinary & make it something extraordinary – like jesus making water into wine. and now, i’m gonna work really hard to practice what i preach. hehe. because, i mean, seriously, things may not be perfect; but perhaps i would celebrate more if i looked at what i had, instead of what i don’t have (and i’m not talking material things). life is too short to go around feeling sorry for ourselves. little slivers of beauty & joy exist even in the darkest places & moments. celebrating does not mean being dreamy, unrealistic, and naive. not. at. all. it means embracing all that is wrong, difficult, scary, and horrible in the world & in our lives, and still finding a reason to dance & laugh & sing.

so, instead of wasting my life away, i’m gonna celebrate all that there is to celebrate. and what better time than now. if not now, then when?!

there y’all have gotten the gist of what i’m talking about today at work. wanna join me in celebrating later on?!

happy sunday! throw a party! (even if it’s for yourself…. you’re worth it!). peace & laughter.

njut av november.

this month is looking good!

  • CD release party. woo hoo.

  • road trip to skåne (southern sweden) for a traditional family goose dinner. my love & i loooove skåne!

  • a pop over to denmark on the ferry. be still my heart.

  • an open mic night/music cafe at the church where i work & my love’s gonna sing. yippee!

  • gonna preach again. oh yeah.

  • weekend in stockholm: a major deal for my love, a concert in the old town, and a chance to hang out with amazing people. perrrrfect.

  • a night at the theater. a little culture’s always right.

  • thanksgiving dinner at our home. 3rd annual swedish-american

  • more candles, even darker & shorter days, and perhaps (?!) some snow.

  • and then, all the amazing-ness in between that’ll surprise us.

peace & turkey love. gobble gobble.

* “njut av november” = swedish for “enjoy november”!

time for a wedding & a party! 3.2

i cannot even begin to express in words the gratitude and honor that i feel because i was able to be a part of such an amazing wedding day of 2 very special people. so, instead of unsuccessfully trying to describe it to you, i’m gonna address a letter to the newlyweds…

chris & nicole, i wish you all the happiness in the world, joy & peace in your souls, and a lifetime of love. and i thank you deeply for inviting my love & me to be a part of your wedding day, a beautiful weekend, and a part of your lives. it was a weekend filled with incredible moments and experiences which lina & i will not soon forget. we can’t wait to see you again soon… in ireland, or sweden, or the states, or wherever life takes. we love you both! congratulations!

now, here come the pics!

all ready for the celebrations!

first things first. the outfit. courtesy of my dear friend, g!

my love, warming up her voice. she sang during the wedding. and it was amazing! ♥

irish ladies, like english ones, wear hats at weddings. who knew? if felt like i was at a royal wedding. the hat is THE accessory.

the beautiful bride listening to my love sing. i’m a proud wife.

congratulations, nicole & chris!

look at this sweet lady. stylin’!

we drove back from the church to kilshane house for the reception & party. when we stepped out of the car, we were greeted at the door to the house with a glass of champagne. let the fun begin!!

the crowd waiting for the bride & groom to arrive.

waiting & being silly. (the kept filling our glasses with champagne. shhhh.)

here they come! on horses, of course. a fairytale.

beautiful. amazing.

the swedish (american) guests & our amazing friend, the bride. my love, me, nicole, & jonas (my love’s brother)

mr. paddy “carson”. the head butler (or whatever you call him) who reminds us of a character from downton abbey. he was so jovial & wonderful.

time for delicious dinner & a party!

games & songs! yes. we were standing on chairs.

the first dance by the wedding couple. elegant.

and then… poof. a dress change in the middle of their dance, and it was on!

soon, everyone joined in. the music (first a live band & then a dj) was fantastic!

into the wee hours of the morning… still going strong & crazy as ever.

my love & i… on an incredible day we’ll never forget.

it was such a beautiful wedding day filled with great people, great food, and great fun! well, i’ve got one more post left… our last 24 hours in ireland. check back tomorrow to see our last morning at kilshane house (sad face. i could’ve stayed there forever, i think.) and one more night in dublin!

if you’ve missed my other posts from ireland click below:

day one: hello, dublin

day two: road trip!

day three, part one: the morning of the wedding day.

happy friday, all you out there! peace & love.

what a day!

wow. i have been at a wedding celebration all day long, and what an day it had been!

ridiculously gorgeous weather, a wedding by a lake, good food, lots of laughs, and some new swedish traditions for me. it was a happy, beautiful day. pictures to come later!

right now it’s after midnight and i’m exhausted, yet snuggly, in the back seat of a car, cuddled under a blanket, but longing for my bed. well, i’ll be home soon enough. gonna close my eyes and listen to some music now. perhaps hold my love’s hand a little while too. yeah, i know. cozy.

by the way, how was your saturday?!

peace & love.
