the soundtrack to my life // vol. 2015

i’d say that there are two things that inspire me the most in my life: nature and art. within art, i’d place literature, painting, graphics, photography, drama, film, and… music.

through nature i find my grounding. my being. my purpose. i am reminded that what’s important in life is simply the act of being alive.

through art, especially music, i find that my emotions, feelings, thoughts, and values are expressed in ways that i could not even come close to expressing. you see, i am not so much for making my own music, though i can twinkle my fingers on a keyboard and carry a tune. however, i much more enjoy simply listening and soaking up the sounds of instruments and letting the lyrics touch my soul.

this year, i even went so far as to create 12 different playlists, one for each month. i created them in celebration of my love for music, for life, and to share that love with others. it was an amazing experience, and i am continuing my little mixed tape project into 2016!

i use spotify to create and share my playlists, and spotify has done a cool thing and created a way to get statistics of your year in music.

so, to round out 2015 musically, i thought i’d share with you what my year sounded like. what i loved, who i listed to most, and how long i listened – it’s insane how much i listen to music!

so, let’s get down to the info:

i started my year with this song. the first song i listened to in 2015. how very fitting, as i was on the verge of moving out of my home in asheville and moving back to sweden. it was truly all about letting go of what had been, and embracing the new. a perfect new year’s day song, don’t ya think?

you can listen to the song by clicking on the image below:

here are some crazy, crazy stats for 2015. they’re in swedish, since i live in sweden, but i’ll explain:
// i listened to 15,000 minutes of music.
// i listened to 878 different artists.
// i listened to 2,073 different songs.

i was fairly well-rounded, i think. trying lots of new things. making a playlist every month definitely helped!

my most popular playlist in 2015:

you can find all of my mixed tapes (playlists) by clicking >>> right here!

to sum up, i listened to a lot of new music. and loved finding new songs. making playlists is one of my favorite things to do. and, i clearly, most definitely loved elephant revival, sara watkins, sarah jaroz, of monsters and men, and the avett brothers the best. not a big surprise for me. those artists were for sure on repeat a lot. and they pretty much appeared in every playlist. expect to see them popping up in 2016’s mixed tapes as well. hehe.

so, tell me, what have been your favorite songs of 2015? is there a song that sums up your year? if so, what would that be? or did you discover any new artists that have now become a favorite? do tell! share away, and give me some music tips! a new year is just around the corner, and i’ve got lots of music to discover + share!

and if you’d like to find our your statistics, according to spotify, just click >>> here, scroll down, and log in to your account.

peace, love and rock ‘n’ roll. xoxo

  1. Nice one. I also have a Spotify account and I checked my year a few weeks ago. It made me smile. Need to look at it again but this is a brilliant idea for a post so I’ll write one too. I breathe and drink music, I would never be able to live without music. I love epic music – yes I know the term “epic” is dramatic and generic. Epic, heroic, cinematic, emotional, and all in between. Melodious piano moods and relaxation music. Trance, celtic, new age (love Enya and like Enya), jazz, rock, metal, there are only very few types of music I can’t do – dubstep being one. Anyway, music. Loooooooove. My air and my inspiration.

    1. Awesome! I cannot wait to read your post too! And I agree… I would be so very lost without music, all kinds. And, I am a big Enya lover too. Such great meditation music. xoxo

    1. Thanks so much Ginger!! And I’v got a post coming up later today with all of my little Christmas decorations. 😉

  2. I feel so very similar in that music expresses things that I personally am unable to express. In fact, I believe all forms of art have the potential to express what is most fundamental about our existence. Your inspiration from nature and art thus make perfect sense to me: nature is the raw, the truth, the power of all that is, and art to me is the human interpretation, the translation of the awe-some power into forms that we can recognize and connect with. This is why art in all its forms is so important to me – it is a connection with the divine. And I totally revere all those who can face the immense complexities, understand it, and then translate it. Musicians, fine artists, and writers are teachers and their cultivation of their gifts is a gift to all of us.
