I ushered in July with Miss Voon : Uppsala’s sassy + sexy rooftop bar

I’m not really a drinks girl. I like my craft beer + my wine. But, Miss Voon. She enticed + intrigued me. She’s new and has already earned a reputation for her killer drinks and her breathtaking view of Uppsala. And, as I walked by during sunset on the last night of June, I longingly looked up at her and thought to myself, “I have got to go check that place out soon.

Little did I know that, in about an hour, I’d be right up there ordering a yummy drink and enjoying a magical sunset.

You see, on my way home, as I passed Miss Voon, I received a text from my wife that she + her friend were headed to none other than Miss Voon for drinks. She invited me to join them, and I responded with an excited, “Yes!”.

Miss Voon is at the top of a newly built hotel, so we walked through the reception area of the hotel (which looked quite nice) and took the elevator up to the 11th floor (I think it was 11). As we emerged from the elevator, we were immediately immersed into a hip cocktail bar and restaurant. The mood was dark and very Sex in the City. Not really my style. But, still, I was intrigued and excited and open to seeing what kind of vibe I got.

As we walked through the restaurant area + headed to the bar, I decided that I loved it. Again, it’s no pub or brewery or warehouse (my go-to places for relaxation and feeling all the feels), but Miss Voon was sleek and sassy. And I was sucked in by the bar… purposefully placed in front of a wall of windows overlooking all of Uppsala.

We made a bee-line for the bar and squeezed our way into a packed group of people, all ordering fun + fancy drinks. Lina and I happened to see some people getting up from a little cocktail table, and we moved in, hovered (as you do when you’re desperate for a kick ass place to sit), and snagged the spot that everyone wants. Bam.

Lina’s friend, also named Lina, stayed at the bar and ordered our drinks. And then, she brought them over in all of their glory. Of course I had to snap some photos, and as I did, the woman sitting beside us, who had a perfect view into my camera as I took the photos, commented as I lined everything up + took the shots. She was so sweet, commenting me and then even decided that she needed to take a photo of our drinks too. Hehe. We sat and drank and laughed and continuously took photos as the sun set lower and lower beneath the horizon.

After a while, we decided that we just had to go out on the balcony. There’s a balcony?! Out there it was pure magic. People gathered. Laughing. Toasting. Chatting. And all the while the sun sinking even lower, the moon hanging over Uppsala, and June sliding into July.

I took this photo right as the clock struck midnight. What a beautiful way for July to begin.

Yes, Miss Voon, she’s a magical place. And, while I won’t go there all the time, she is definitely someone I will visit every now + then. In fact, I already decided that I have to make it there during the winter when the northern lights make their spontaneous appearance over Uppsala. I am just certain that I’ll be up there one night and get to see them for the first time in my life.

In the meantime, thanks, Miss Voon, for your sassy, classy ways. And, of course… cheers!

xoxo. liz.
