the week that was all about thanksgiving // 47

Wine. Cheese. Family. A little work. A lot of meditation. Some snow. And getting cozy in the dark.

It’s the end of November, a time of the year that I love for so many reasons. Reasons like… the beginning of the holiday season. I love the focus on gathering simply to gather, to be cozy, and to just enjoy each other.

And, of course, inward nature of this spiritual time of year is a favorite part of mine… religious or not, one cannot help but be affected by the darkness and the feeling of going “in”, both literally as in coming in from the cold, and figuratively, as in looking in on one’s own soul, reflecting on the coming of the end of the year. It’s a time for reevaluation, re-setting, and re-needing from the inside out. Perfect for contemplative souls like me.

And, though it’s tough and I find myself lacking energy, the darkness feels like a heavy blanket that lays on me. Calming me, helping me to slow down, and focus on what’s really important. In some ways, the darkness helps me see more clearly. Hard to explain.

In any case, this week was that turning point for me. The last turn of the year, the beginning of the holiday season and the winding down of all that has been in 2016. There are still a few weeks left, of course, but it is now that I begin to get some perspective and enjoy the simpler things in life.

So, here are a few things that I enjoyed immensely throughout this past week. Simple. Regular. Everyday moments.

Wishing you a good beginning to the holiday season… however you celebrate it.

Love to you all.
