the theme for this year’s north carolina state fair was “a north carolina homecoming!”… totally appropriate for me, since it has actually been my “homecoming” back to north carolina this year. my first autumn, my first fair, in my home state in quite a few years. needless to say, i was extremely excited to be able to visit the state fair this year, an old tradition that i’ve shared with my family for most of my life. and what was even better, was it was lina’s premiere fair experience! it was so great to get to share with her this blast from my past.
we drove down the mountain to raleigh, the capital of nc, on friday afternoon – about a 4 hour trip. checked into our hotel, and hit the mall – one of our favorites in nc. (lina has been to raleigh quite a few times already, just not the fair). we did some shopping for some cheap basics at h&m (filling our swedish homesick souls) and ate dinner at the cheesecake factory – but, no cheesecake. hehe.
saturday morning we woke up and took it easy, then headed out to fight the traffic and immerse ourselves in the craziness that is the state fair. from fair rides to fair food, we braved the crowds and braved the fried goodness that only these kinds of places deliver. we got back to basics and learned things at exhibitions and educational events. we visited the farm animals & vegetables that were there for show and prizes. and we soaked up the countrified, simple, atmosphere filled with people from all walks of life. the 2013 state fair did not disappoint!
hope you had a great weekend too!
love & peace. xx
Seems so weird to think of a state fair in October. Ours is just before Labor Day, and for good reason. There was a premier snow fall in a good share of the state today–not optimal for fair activities. Here it is just cold, windy and rainy. I enjoyed your beautiful fair pics without having to fight traffic or crowds. Thanks for sharing!
I loved the Skansk wedding cake style of potato chips! (Assuming that is not what it is meant to resemble, but what came to my mind.)
Love the bus picture and the wifey taking over the wheel! 😉
she’s just so cute. 😉
Looks like an ABSOLUTE blast! I’m glad you guys had such a great time, and Happy Homecoming!
good, clean, simple fun! we had a great time! and… thanks! xx
Lookalike a pretty great weekend getaway. You two look adorable in the photos, by the way.
Awww… thank you. xx
Aww it looks fab! Very similar to the country shows I experienced here this year – all the lines of fruit and veg etc… However, your american-ness is always so evident in photos (obviously as you are in the states!) – love it!
Haha! My American-ness! I am definitely soaking it all up and enjoying it from a whole different perspective again. 🙂
