hello! i’m liz. and this is my story.
i created belovelive.com in 2011, as an online diary… a way to document + process everyday moments of my life as a new expat.
after turning my life upside-down, falling in love, + moving to sweden, i wanted to document all of my exciting, new experiences of living in a foreign country + of rediscovering my soul.
throughout the past 9 years, though, this space has not only been the place to document my life, but it has transformed into the place where i have discovered my own wisdom + power through my words + images… here, i have learned how to embody my soul + align my life with the way i want to live.
i want to continually evolve + become. i want a life with magic + meaning. one that is slow, intentional, authentic, wild + sacred. i want to be of use. for my life to make a difference. for the days that i am alive to be deep and long and to leave this world a better place after i am gone.
belovelive.com tells the story of finding myself through being, loving, and living. of learning to live a slow, wild, and sacred life in rhythm with the seasons. and it continues my story + evolution through today. so, welcome! I hope you find a little bit of yourself in my experiences, photos, and words.
i was born and raised an american. now i’m lifetime ex-pat, splitting my heart between two places that i call home: north carolina and sweden. i am a proud wife to lina. sister + daughter. and co-mom to a sweet little cat.
i’m a lover of travel, all kinds of spirituality, the wilderness, urban life, family time and good food + drinks. these are the things that i need in order to breathe. know what i mean?
currently i live in uppsala, sweden where my day job is as a mentor/life coach. i am also a writer + photographer. previously, i’ve held positions as a special education teacher, a minister in the united methodist church, and a freelance writer/photographer.
qualificationly-speaking, i hold a master’s of divinity degree in theology and a bachelor’s degree in special education. and i am also internationally certified life coach.
below is a little summary into how this space got started, how belovelive has evolved, and what’s in store for the future.
the sweden years | part 1 | 2010-2013
in 2010, after nine months of marriage, my wife and i moved to sweden. she’s swedish and i’m american, and we’re two girls. so, we decided that sweden would be the place where we made our first home together, as it was not possible to live as a married couple in north carolina at the time. so, we took our little american cat, packed my bags, and flew across the great wide atlantic to begin our new life.
as a new ex-pat, every single day was an adventure. i was living my dream (thirteen years in the making) of living in europe. i was in love. and life was pretty crazy & amazing. so, i decided to start a blog to celebrate my life in sweden and to share what life was like in sweden with all of my friends & family “back home” in the states.
but, pretty soon, it was much more than that. the name of my blog (belovelive) became my inspiration – an outward expression of what i believed in most; and of the life that i yearned to live.
somehow, my blog began to grow and i began to gain friends from countries spread all over the globe. some of these blogging friends even become real-life friends. in addition to creating relationships through the blog, i found myself writing almost daily, sharing my thoughts, inspirations, photos, travels, and adventures.
the asheville years | 2013-2015
in the summer of 2013, my love and i hopped a plane (with our cat in tow again – she’s a trooper), and moved back to the states. my love, with a student visa, was ready to begin a career change and study graphic design at an american university (you can visit her website here).
in asheville, we lived in a cozy, funky apartment about five minutes from downtown + fifteen minutes from the top of a mountain with stunning views. we were in love with our life there, enjoying every second of the diverse, eclectic, artsy, foodie city in the midst of a gorgeous, natural setting.
our days were filled with studying and writing/blogging. but we always found time to enjoy dinners out, a ride on a mountain road, a visit to the biltmore estate, some shopping, a cold beer at one of the local breweries, a glass of wine on our balcony, road trips, days at the park, photo shoots, and most importantly – time with friends & family.
our time in asheville gave me the inspiration + space to focus on freelance work, such as writing, photography, and spiritual guidance. i guided weekly small groups, wrote for a local, independent newspaper, photographed a few weddings, and got ordained so that i could offer personal marriage ceremonies to both lgbtqi + straight couples.
the sweden years | part 2 | 2015 – today
in january of 2015, as a new year began, filled with new energy + possibilities, my love and i moved back to sweden to live. she, now a full-time graphic designer and me with a side job at a photo boutique. however, it was hard to make ends meet with only one steady income, so i decided to jump back into the school system. but, this time, in a whole different role.
since december 2015, i have been working as a mentor/coach at a high school, creating my own life coach/spiritual guide business, slowly working on that book, and simply letting my life evolve. to read more about how i became a life coach click → here.
today i continue my work as high school mentor/life coach and sink more deeply into my contemplative path as the months pass. my life unfolds each day, as i dive deep into living with the seasons and grounding down into an earth-based spirituality. as time moves on, as i uncover + discover my own inner wisdom, i release + evolve + align my soul’s calling to embody my inner priestess and embrace the adventure of discovering how i can create a spiritual community both online + in real life.
right now, i am dreaming + planning workshops, books, downloadables, and retreats for the upcoming future… and rediscovering my roots as a spiritual leader. so, stay tuned in 2020 to see what offerings + services begin to pop up in this space.
