i wonder… do we have our priorities screwed up? are we living life like little rats? running a meaningless or shallow race? work. play. get. spend. repeat. do we really enjoy life? do we take it for granted? or do we appreciate every moment? do we think of others? or ourselves? what is most important in our lives?
bottom line: is there a way to bring more meaning to our lives, to feel a deeper sense of joy and peace?
i believe that there is an amazing life waiting for each one of us. a deep, soul-filled, completely content & happy life where we feel peace. a life where we are like water flowing in a river, steady & strong, no matter what comes our way. a life where we are like a tall, strong tree… grounded and stable, but bending & swaying in the wind. i believe that there is a way for us to live life and feel peace, come what may. no matter what happens. in good times & i difficult ones.
the thing is, that deep and meaningful life that we want doesn’t come to us through material things, power, or status. we create the life that we want by living simply and by simply living. so, that’s what this month is all about.
you know, i am moving out of my apartment here in sweden this month. and with that, comes lots of going through stuff. scaling down, giving away, reassessing what i want, what i need, and what’s really important. and you know what? i don’t need that much. my love and i will be staying in sweden for another month after moving out of our apartment, but then, it’s off to the states! and we are only taking with us what fits in 2 suitcases each. yep. that’s it.
so, with all that in mind, i decided that june would be the perfect month for a journey of simplicity. of rediscovering a more simple way of life, a more meaningful and peaceful way of being and living. one that is connected to my soul, to nature, and to others.
so, gear up, friends! june’s photo a day is all about getting back to basics, slowing down, and enjoying life one simple moment at a time! i guarantee, if we all take the time to do this, by the end of june we will have journeyed to a new place within our souls and reconnected with our selves and each other.

Wow, I think that everyone could use the challenge of moving and only taking what fits in 2 suitcases! How liberating that would be (frustrating and difficult perhaps, but worth it!)!
This is a great month for paring down, slowing down, re-evaluation and new starts- I’m looking forward to it! 🙂
I wish you the best in all your packing, organizing and starting anew. May you and your wife have the blessings of ease and deep breath. Happy June 🙂
Thanks, Lexie! I wish you, too, much sunshine, peace, & simplicity this month. May June be a freeing and meaningful month for you. xo
I had only two suitcases with me when I moved to the States. I was planning on staying here for a year but after three years I don’t miss anything I left behind in Germany. You really don’t need much to survive and whenever I move back I am considering taking with me only one suitcase and one carry-on. Over-consuming can just spoil a lot.
It’s so true! You don’t need a lot to survive. When I moved to Sweden I only had 1 suitcase & 1 carry-on. We bumped it up to 2 each because there are 2 of us, we are actually moving some things from here since we built a life here, and since we know we’ll be in the states at least 4 years. It feels so good to clean out, give away, and prioritize! 🙂
You will add so much stuff to it once you’re settled in the States. The prices are so cheap, it’s hard not to. 😉
